Grades 1–5
Independent thinking. Problem-solving. Creativity. Nurturing discovery and curiosity in caring, supportive spaces.
We are dedicated to providing all of our students with a supportive and engaging learning environment that best addresses the unique needs of each learner through integrated academic curriculum at our elementary schools.
We nurture students' ability to think independently and become adept problem-finders and problem-solvers. We offer programs that foster creativity and ownership of learning through asking questions and seeking answers. Our schools work to develop confident students who are prepared to succeed both inside and outside of school.
Our elementary programming allows for core instruction in math, reading, writing, science and social studies. In addition, we serve the needs of the whole child as we integrate positive behavioral interventions (PBIS) into our learning environment. The social-emotional wellbeing of each student is always a key part of our academic focus.
We engage in a continuous improvement model of education that follows research-based principals and instructional components to ensure excellence for both students and staff. The Sauk Rapids-Rice School District utilizes a variety of resources like Benchmark Education for reading, Lucy Calkins Writing Units of Study and Math Expressions, along with other resources that support the integration of science and social studies standards. The Minnesota State Standards are the foundation of all of our schools' content areas.
Our K–5 students engage in standards-based whole group instruction as well as guided teacher instruction and independent skills practice. These structures of instruction are guided by formative assessment, allowing teachers to respond to what each student knows and provide appropriate support.
