We will continue to practice lockdown drills to improve safety procedures. The Rice Police Department will participate and be present as well. The goal is to practice the "Locks, Lights, Out of Sight" protocol and test security systems. The next drill is scheduled for April 24.
On April 10, we will also participate in the statewide Severe Weather Awareness Drill at 1:45pm.
In the month of April, we will begin state testing (the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments or MCAs) in math (grades 3-5), reading (grades 3-5), and science (grade 5). The MCAs are used to gather information about alignment of our school’s and the district’s curriculum and assessment with the state academic standards. A few things you can do to support your child as testing dates approach include:
-
Healthy Habits: Encourage your child to maintain healthy habits in the days leading up to the tests. This includes getting enough sleep, eating a nutritious breakfast, and staying hydrated.
-
Encouragement and Support: Your support and encouragement play a significant role in your child's testing experience. Remind them to stay calm, do their best, and approach the tests with confidence.
-
Addressing Anxiety: It's natural for students to feel some level of anxiety before tests. Talk to your child about their feelings and reassure them that it's okay to feel nervous.
Please emphasize the importance of trying their best and learning from the experience.
